Resting Metabolic Rate
Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the rate at which an individual's body burns energy at complete rest.
It calculates the amount of calories and an individual's body needs to perform basic functions.
This test is performed by applying a spirometer mask to a subject who has been fasting. It measures oxygen consumption and energy expenditure while at rest.
"The reason why I think it is essential to monitor one's resting metabolic rate is to make sure that their metabolism is not being harmed when engaging in a lower caloric diet. Losing weight must be done in a controlled manner, and if this is not adhered to, one's metabolism can and will be suppressed. By following a scientifically based weight loss program and by periodically assessing one's metabolic rate, we can be sure that each individual is setting themselves up for long-term weigth loss success."- Dr. Campbell
